Well Lit Homes Are Much Easier To Sell !

May 23rd, 2010 by Scott Rodgers

A good lighting plan is very important for your home. It makes it look more attractive and if you want to sell your home, it will make your work much easier. So, one should have sufficient lighting in every area of the home because it looks good and more impressive to the people entering when lit brightly.

Both interior and exterior lighting is important. So, choose the right lighting fixtures for your home and make it look more beautiful.

Always make sure that you have adequate and a good lighting scheme for the exterior areas of your home. Remove the dust form the outdoor lights regularly so that they emit maximum light. For outdoor areas like gardens and driveways, you can get accent lights installed which which can beautifully highlight these areas.

Make a great first impression with a well-lit front entrance and hallway. Install high-wattage bulbs and keep light fixtures clean and cobweb-free. If you have pot lights or recessed lights, perhaps you can tilt them to highlight artwork. Another way to create a bright, open entryway is to paint walls a light neutral color and add mirrors.

Another important area in home is a kitchen. Now a days it is used for many different activities apart from just cooking food. So, always illuminate your kitchen nicely to make it a more pleasant place. You can use spot lights on some special features. You can also go for recessed ceiling lights. Task lights are very important in kitchen. Like, you can place them over the counter tops or over the stove so that you can perform the task without any troubles. Accent lights over the kitchen table will look good.

If a room or an area is well lit, it makes it look larger. So, try to have arrangements for natural light as well. Like, keep the window shades and curtains open during the day time and also make sure that the lighting is shadow free.

Table lamps are one of the most common lighting fixtures at home. 40-60 watt bulbs will provide good lighting for an area. You can use fancy shades to give it a more beautiful look. You can also use candles for extra ambiance.

Along with all other areas of your home, do not forget to light up your bathroom as insufficient lighting in a bathroom can give a very uncomfortable feel. Areas like over the tub, shower and vanity mirrors should specially be properly lit. Florescent bulbs can be used here. Use bulbs with CRI 80 or more. This can enhance the wall colors and can give a bright look. Installing a night light is also a good idea.

Lighting Types For A Kitchen

May 10th, 2010 by Scott Rodgers

Lighting is often the last thing considered in a kitchen design and the first thing cut from a budget. But to look its best and function well, a kitchen must be properly lit and that involves more than just specifying stylish fixtures. A good plan blends lighting into the architectural and decorative details of the room.

Usually many people are into a habit of using a single ceiling mounted fixture for their kitchen. But this is not the right way to light up a kitchen as it will result in too much light in some areas and shadows else where.

No single light source can provide all the necessary light for a kitchen. A well-lit kitchen layers and blends four different types of light. Every kitchen remodel should include the following:

Task lighting is the first thing to consider when it comes to planning lighting for a kitchen. A kitchen is used for various activities like cooking, eating, cutting vegetable, reading recipes etc. So, to perform these tasks comfortably, it is important to place the task lights at the right place which is between the person’s head and the work surface.

Then comes the ambient lighting. This is for the general illumination of the area and one should select such fixtures that will bring in a more inviting feel. Also, it should be glare free. If cabinets are not too high, then you can place these lights above them.

Accent lighting is also an important component of kitchen lighting design. These are basically used to highlight some special features which will add to the beauty of the area. You can place thee lights in glass cabinets to illuminate the glassware and other crockery collection. You can also use low voltage recessed lights to accent any art work.

Decorative lighting. Generally this type of lighting is referred to as architectural jewelry. It adds sparkle to a space.

Dimmer switches are the latest trend in the market these days. With these you can control the intensity of light as per your needs and can create any kind of environment. Like, while cooking food, bright lights would make the work easier where as you can dim the lights for a romantic dinner. But make sure to have separate dimmer switches for each type of lighting.
