Ukiyo-E:The wonderful world of Japanese Watercolor Art

Posted by: jan  :  Category: Art Posters, Art Prints, Wall Decor

Here is a fun slide show – Enjoy!

Jump to Japan: Discovering culture through popular art at Kids ‘N’ Stuff

ART + Museum+ history = kids fun!

Artful Traditions Japanese watercolors and Woodblock Prints

Artful Traditions focuses on the people, places and things depicted in nine displayed ukiyo-e (woodblock prints). Seven of the prints are from Edo Tokyo Museum’s collection, Picture Book of Child Play by Syuntei Miyagawa. Two prints are by masters of woodblock prints, Katsushika Hokusai and Ando Hiroshige. Visitors are introduced to Japanese traditions—including clothing, festivals, children’s games and stories—through activities shown in the woodblock prints. Each woodblock print is juxtaposed with a photograph of contemporary Japan, in which the same or a related scene is portrayed.

Visitors enter a Japanese home of the Edo period (1603-1867) modeled after details shown in the woodblock prints: walls of openwork wooden grating, wood lattice with paper panes and a roof of bamboo with wood shakes. Landscape elements and a bamboo overlay on two of the exterior walls represent the gardens outside many Japanese homes of this era.

Visitors can also play an ancient Japanese card game, Karuta, which is still played today. A Japanese woodblock print shows a group of girls playing Karuta, in which contestants race to make matches between cards with one-half of a Japanese poem or proverb (in script or pictures) and cards bearing the other half.

From Past to Present

Visitors can view an ancient picture scroll, a reproduction from Chôjûgiga (The Frolicking Animal Scrolls) by the 12th century artist-priest Toba. A panel holds “seek-and-find” questions for visitors that call attention to details in the scroll. Visitors see similarities between ancient scrolls, woodblock prints and the contemporary art forms of manga and anime.

Kids ‘N’ Stuff Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization that provides fun, interactive learning experiences for children ages 0 through 10 years. Visitors discover their world through hands-on exhibits. Kids ‘N’ Stuff is committed to enhancing the educational opportunities for children and their families by providing a creative and enriching experience through interactive exhibits and programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, and technology. Kids ‘N’ Stuff Children’s Museum has been providing children and adults with a fun, educational environment for 7 years.

Five Surefire ways to stay positive (motivational posters is one of them)

Posted by: jan  :  Category: Art Posters, Art Prints, Visual Arts

By Susmi Edalath

Have you ever been in a situation where you feel that your motivation is damaged? Don’t worry, life is unfair! But that doesn’t mean that we should be unfair to life. When life is not treating you well, treat life the best you can. Staying positive is the only way to show your courage towards obstacles in your path. In this way, you prove that you are brave; and that minor hindrance on the way to your success doesn’t bother you anymore. Following are the five ways to stay positive:

Try to find something good in everything:

Major hurdles in your life can be overcome by a positive outlook. For this particular reason, I would say that considering negative experiences as your training for life can help you to a great extend. Moreover, try to believe that negative situations enhance your ability to cope with stressful events in the future.

Further, learn from your mistakes for mistakes are the gateway to wisdom. Once you master the art of learning from your mistakes, you will be able to find that you are armed to fight a battle against stressful situations. Apart from your mistakes, try to understand your drawbacks so that you can alleviate it by finding a remedial solution for it.After all, remember that we all are humans and there is no human who is perfect.

Quotes, wallpapers and posters:

This is a great way to think in a positive way. What you have to do is to collect as many motivational quotes on a daily basis. Then try to associate your problem with these quotes. Besides, I would guarantee you that this method encourages you to lead an interesting life.

In addition to this, collecting motivational posters can work wonders. But see for that you spend two minutes of your routine to contemplate about the poster. This kind of hobby not only promotes motivation, but it is also a way of positive introspection.

Using motivational wallpapers on your desktop and mobile phone is also an appreciable way to develop positive thoughts. Each time you glance at them, it will be unconsciously embedded in your mind. The reason I mentioned the use of wallpapers are because I think that it can be an integral part of your routine.

Creating a positive environment:

What if you could change the mood of every person around you? Yes! It’s always possible! Say for example, you enter a room stuffed with gloomy people. A big smile on your face can bring a dramatic change in their expression. By smiling, you provide them with a comfortable encounter with reality.Other ways to create a positive environment includes taking life humorously.

Try to find humor in a difficult situation. Indeed, humor enables a person to reduce the heavy load of troubles on his shoulders. Also, studies of people’s reaction to positive developments suggest that those who tell a friend about a happy event enjoy it even more. But, at times you may come across people who are skeptical and sadistic. Ignore their comments and hold on to your positive beliefs. Anyway, try to understand the fact that nobody on the face of earth can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Praying:

One of the major factors that contribute to the way you think is by accepting the existence of God. Believe me! I have seen dramatic change in the lives of people who believe in God. For them, God is a sign of positive thinking. Besides, belief in God is the best way to promote hope.

Expressing your creativity:

Writing poems about a positive event in your life can be very useful in developing positive thoughts. So, how do you get the inspiration? Well, the technique is pretty simple. First, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Then rewind your life and search for a moment where you are appreciate for your hard work or think about an event where you gained massive applause.

How do you feel? Think and write about it. In this way, you not only extract the essence of happiness but you also get a chance to bring out your creative side. You may also use this technique for other kind of arts. Thus, we can infer that positive thinking is a powerful tool in life.

Note: GREAT POST thank you so much Susmi Edalath!

  • Monetizing Past Clients
Some freelance designers are of the opinion that the 80:20 rule applies to a freelancer’s business. They reckon that 20% of our income comes from 80% of our clients and 80% of our income comes from 20% of clients. I happen to agree with this, for the most part.
